Stephen McNeill is a songwriter, musician, and music teacher who lives just outside of Memphis.
He has produced four solo albums including his latest, The Art of Repair (available October 2021). The Art of Repair is a collection of stories and prayers about picking up the pieces after a season of loss. It comes on the heels of two albums of hymns and congregational songs, Centerpiece: Songs of Gospel Community (2017) and Centerpiece Volume II: Shelter and Shade (2019).
In addition to his solo work, Stephen is the bassist/co-writer for Sow and Tether and half of the instrumental, sibling duo McNEILL (with drummer, Andrew McNeill). He has been part of the Memphis-area bands The Last, Other Stories, and Philadelphia, and he regularly produces projects for other artists.
Over nearly 20 years, Stephen has also taught hundreds of music students. Using fretted instruments (guitar, bass, mandolin, ukulele) and drums, he helps students discover the fun in music while grounding them in the fundamentals of playing and reading. He also coaches songwriters and teaches the basics of recording technique.
Stephen enjoys a cup of tea every afternoon, reading with his family before bedtime, and making salsa from his garden.
